January 26, 2009 Three Former UYSA Stars Turning Pro! UYSA would like to congratulate Kyle Christensen, Katie Larkin, and Allison Martino for representing the Utah Youth Soccer in a positive way and recently being drafted to play professional soccer.
Christensen was named the 2008 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Year, as well as All-MPSF first team honors, the fourth year he has been recognized by the conference. Christensen led the Pioneers to their first-ever MPSF championship in 2008, and the team advanced to the First Round of the NCAA Championship for the first time since 1970 after finishing the season 10-7-2 overall and 8-1-1 in the MPSF. Prior to attending The University of Denver Christensen was a member of Utah ODP, and Region IV ODP Pool. He played for three UYSA Clubs including Strikers, Advantage, and Sparta winning State Cup championships with all three. Chivas USA will open the season against the Colorado Rapids at the Home Depot Center Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 10:30pm. The game will be broadcast live on the Fox Soccer Channel
During her collegiate career at Brigham young University, Larkin was selected to All-American teams her sophomore, junior and senior years, and was the 2008 Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year and MWC Tournament Player of the Year. Prior to attending BYU Larkin was a member of Utah ODP, Region IV ODP and a National Pool Player. Her UYSA club team was the State Champion Celtic Storm (2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004). The Sol will face off against the Washington Freedom in the Women Professional Soccer's inaugural match at the Home Depot Center on Sunday, March 29 at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Fox Soccer Channel.
From Draper, Utah, Martino established herself as one of the fastest players in the Big 12 with the ball at her feet. She was named to the Soccer Buzz All-Central Region third team and the All-Big 12 second team as a junior before earning All-Big 12 first-team honors in 2007. Martino tallied eight goals and 22 assists as an Aggie. Prior to attending Texas A&M, Martino was a member of Utah ODP, Region IV ODP and a National Pool Player. Martino was the Deseret News Player of the Year while prepping at Alta High School. She played for several UYSA Clubs including Firebirds, Gators, H2O, and Inter FC. The Breakers will begin their inaugural season against FC gold Pride at Santa Clara, California's Buck Shaw Stadium Sunday, April 5, 2009. Time and media information is TBD. WPS is the highest level women's professional soccer league in North America. The inaugural WPS season will kick off in April 2009. |
